For many guitar students DVDs are the ideal way to learn to play guitar. DVDs make more noise and hold the attention better than books, plus they are easier to store. But in general, most people who want to learn to play the guitar would prefer a video of their teacher showing them how to play. Plus the kind of graphics available on DVDs are much more guitar newbie-friendly when it comes to learning chords or tabs. There are many DVDs out there that say they will teach you guitar but I prefer two that have actually been around for a few years, and I thought I would share them with you.

Learning to play guitar is something that you will need to think of as a long term effort and isn’t something that you can do in an evening, a week or even a month. It requires a variety of skills that take both time and effort to master. The most effective way to learn is to take lessons with a teacher or work with a more experienced friend who can show you how they learned.

Programs with guitar lessons videos are definitely the most practical way to learn guitar, even if you only have a little bit of free time per day. You can fit in a lesson at your convenience from your own home, in the time that you have. And even if you don’t finish that lesson, not to worry; it will be there for you to pick up when you’re next available.

Video lessons make it easier to learn in the same way that Jimi Hendrix was able to learn: by watching and copying. The written part makes it easier for you to understand what you are doing. Guitar harmonics, for instance, or learning blues. What is a blues note? It is easy to play when you see it being done, but the written part will explain on the staff how that lower pitched note makes all the difference. You can also see a 7th chord written beside the major, and compare the difference. Then play it and see how it sounds.
